Meet Hot Lava Mama: Deena Remiel

2 Aug

Q. When did the writing bug first bite you, Deena?

The Poetry Writing Bug bit me when I was in college. But I got bitten real hard two Spring Breaks ago by the Novel Writing Bug. I believe, had I not moved out to Arizona, I would not be the writer I am today.

Q. Friends and family aside, what are the five things you cannot live without?

I CANNOT live without chicken soup, chocolate, music, books, and a nice cabernet.

Q. Every Plot Mama has a Mama ‘handle’? What is the story behind yours?

Well, I’m Hot Lava Mama, and if you promise not to tell, I’ll let you in on the secret. It’s actually the color of my Scion XB – Hot Lava!

Q. Fill in some blanks:

I’d rather be having a massage.

To write, is divine.

If at first you don’t get a kiss, give one.

If you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the desert.

Q. What movie can you watch 1,000 times and never get sick of?

Princess Bride. Why? As you wish; I shall tell you. Although the movie is very tongue-in-cheek, the belief that even death can’t part true love makes me melt.

Q. What’s your favorite thing about motherhood?

I love everything! I loved being pregnant. I loved my babies, and now I love my big girls. Every stage of development has so much to offer to our relationship.  I look forward, but I’m NOT RUSHING by ANY means, my daughters becoming adults in their own right. My daughters, my most prized accomplishments.

Q. What about motherhood still boggles your mind?

It boggles my mind that while my girls seem to be growing up, I still can stay so naturally youthful in every way.

Q. If you found a writing magic wand today, what would you use it for and why?

I would use it to write every synopsis I will ever have to write in my career!

Deena’s Bio:

My name is Deena Remiel, and I am an author of paranormal romance and poetry. I also teach language arts to middle schoolers. Curiously, I find myself being called upon to write all sorts of correspondence for  my family and friends, but they  are everything to me, and frequently serve as fodder for elements of my novels, poems, and posts.  They take it all in stride, though, and with good humor. So, it’s really a perfect give and take relationship! I belong to RWA national and the Desert Rose Chapter of RWA, where there are outstanding people writing fabulous stories. I can now say I’m a published author! My first paranormal romance novel, Trinity, is set to release in time for the winter holidays! I also have poetry published in the anthology, Hippoetry, coming out in the fall of 2010.
I grew up in Philadelphia, home of the most amazing soft pretzels, oh and the Liberty Bell.  My husband and I began our own family in New Jersey, and just a few short years ago,  Arizona called to my spirit and tempted my husband with much better weather! We moved our family, and the rest is history, or the present, as the case may be!
These are a few of my favorite things: writing and reading of course, chocolate, music with lyrics or melodies that speak to me, soaking baths, singing in the shower, dancing with my buds, romantic dancing with my hubby, scrapbooking, watching my girls enjoy what they love to do, and laughing at jokes.

Hey there, Ann! Yeah, I try to go for the embarrassing laugh out loud even though no one’s around kind of humor. Although a quiet chuckle is just as rewarding. Cheers to the fun journey of getting to know each other! Clink! Slurp! Ahhh!

Deena I love it that we both picked the same movie. My whole family loves The Princess Bride. And we’re both teachers! Of course I teach K and you, brave woman, teach Middle School. Have fun, Hot Lava Mama
