Nurturing the Pen Name

14 Jun

Sometimes I feel like I’m living multiple lives. This spring I took a step I should have last year, but simply didn’t have the time or energy to do: I created social networks for Stephanie  J Grace. Stephanie J Grace is my sweet alter ego. She loves love and faith and family and actually the closest to my ideals base. I adore my work ast Stephanie Beck and plan to write naughty, fun, romantic books for years to come, but Stephanie J Grace just opens a few doors.

Now, those two, I can handle pretty well. I just make it a habit to check both networks and have started a blog for SJG. It’s twice the work, but I’ve been moving to do it more efficiently, so it doesn’t take twice the time. *Here’s Stephanie J Grace’s info–go find her–she’s good people* www.facebook.com/StephanieJGrace  and www.stephaniejgrace.blogspot.com

Move toward crazy. I am developing a third persona to cover my horror brand. It’s a logical step. If it’s not romance or erotica–it doesn’t fit Stephanie Beck. If it’s not inspirational and sweet–it misses with Stephanie J Grace. Hence, S.D. Beck has been born.

What goes into a penname as far as preparation? It’ s more than choosing a name. On my todo list:

set up email

set up blog

set up social networking

contact appropriate ad vendors for pricing and time schedules

register at proper horror/fiction author sites

All of that…and SD doesn’t even have a book out yet!!

Here’s a peek at what’s in the works:

Midnight at Ripley Inn

Rene only wanted to temper her mommy guilt with a nice vacation to the coast for her husband and three daughters. Waking up to a room covered in blood and her youngest child biting herself never entered her plans. With her seven-year-old trying to hurt the ones around her and no way off the island, Rene and her husband rely on the help of the locals.

While storms rage on, both outside and inside the Ripley Inn, Rene must decide whether to trust the kind island pastor, or the ghost trapped inside the walls of the hotel. One claims to want to help them, the other wants them gone before what’s inside Rene’s daughter bursts free and kills them all.

We’ll see where it goes.

For now, signing off as Gnome Mama

aka

Stephanie Beck

or

Stephanie J Grace

or, hell, why not

SD Beck

You’re a fantastic thinker, Shari! The practical side of writing can amount to a whole lot of busy work, but once it’s done, life is easier :)

Well, I never mentioned doing these things quickly LOL. I just keep plugging away–things get done eventually :)
