Loving Something Naughty
By Stephanie Beck
Welcome blog hoppers! Stay tuned for prize details and learn how to win an ebook of David’s Angel along with the Unleashed grand prizes!
Some people say they couldn’t possibly enjoy something that is truly naughty. I call shenanigans to that statement. I say they haven’t found their brand of naughty yet.
In the diverse world covered with the blanket called BDSM I truly believe most readers can find something they not only enjoy but identify with on some level. Some people might honestly never find anything redeeming in BDSM stories…but then, they might never read the ‘right’ one.
Spanking, tying, toy play–the physical nature of BDSM stories can absolutely be a turn off to some women who find such things not to their taste. Some stories never get beyond this physical stage because…well, because they don’t have to. Erotica at its purest form is sex play without the lovie dovie stuff and there is a big old place for that sort of escape.
When the emotional side comes into BDSM stories, you’re mixing romance and erotica and this is where BDSM can draw me in both in reading and writing. The mindset of giving someone else complete control is foreign to me so I have to be sold on it. I have to understand the ‘why’ for both (or more) characters participating in the relationship. Once I’m sold on motivation…good golly can things get awesome!
In David’s Angel, my only BDSM story to date, I went to great lengths to back up the naughtiness with emotion and real life. I love the secret agent and spy BDSM stories–love them–but stretching into the BDSM world of writing was difficult enough, so I put it in a situation I do understand–the home with kids and playdates and real business.
When kink and reality collide, compromise and love keep everyone satisfied.
Living a BDSM lifestyle, Polly is devastated when her husband and dom of ten years dies. Although she is capable of supporting her daughters and maintaining her home, she aches for the companionship of a partner and the dominance of a sexual master.
A decade has passed since David lost Polly to his best friend. She was the one who got away, though his desire to be with her never faded. With the death of Polly’s husband bringing them back together, their attraction is instantly rekindled.
Settling into the role of surrogate father and dominating partner, David knows the family needs time to heal. But will the questions people ask about their lifestyle and betrayal within their BDSM group be challenges too great to overcome?

I think I could watch then grill steaks or be in the kitchen it would make them appear more normal.

I think in bdsm stories there has to be an element of normal, at least for me, otherwise I have a hard time jumping in. Thanks for stopping by, Andie!

I like the idea of an ordinary, everyday couple with many secrets behind closed doors. And hey, steak is good, too.
Heck yeah, steak is good! I think if we had scopes into many ‘ordinary’ bedrooms we might be surprised at what we find! Be sure to leave your name and email so I can find you about prize details

I like the characters to have normal lives that they work the BDSM into. Grilling a steak with the neighbors then a spanking ;O)

I am so with you on that one, Carin. Thanks for stopping by!

The characters being normal would be more real to me. Grilling steaks or having a swimming party or even both!

I think I’d like to go to that party, Kimmi! Thanks for stopping by

I would like the characters being normal, I like when they are a little more exotic too though. Thanks for the chance to win!
natasha_donohoo_8 at hotmail dot com
I really love a mix of both. I’ve seen it done a few times where when the characters stop and do something so human (like get coffee) after exotic-wild situations it draws me right back in. Thanks for stopping, Natasha!

I think I have to have a sense of normalcy unless its a paranormal then all that goes out the window.
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
yeah, paranormal really doesn’t need the normal! Thanks for stopping by, Donna

I like it when characters live normal lives where they work the BDSM into and around. Makes you stop and wonder about your neighbors!
suz2(at)cox(dot)net
I love looking at my neighbors and…wondering. My husband says I’m a creeper, but I don’t care! Thanks for stopping, Susan!

I have no problem seeing the characters either way. As long as they are strong and love one another it’s all good. On another note I really enjoyed David’s angel.
Gabrielle

Thanks, Gabrielle! I’m glad you liked it. I learned a whole bunch while writing it and David stole my heart a little

I could live with grilling or in a kitchen…It would just take getting used to, but they would seem more ‘everyday’.
Yvette
yratpatrol@aol.com
I like more to a story, of course, but food is a great equalizer with most people, so I tend to use it to help people connect a little more. Thanks for stopping, Yvette!
Stephanie Beck

I believe doing something normal like grilling for the neighbors allows me to connect more to the characters. By connecting like that, the feelings I get during their “play time” are more intense for me!

If you can connect one place, it opens doors for others for sure! Thanks for stopping Brandy!
Stephanie Beck
http://www.stephaniebeck.net
I like a mixture really, doesn’t all have to be in the same book. I like the normalcy in some, it gives you a connection that you can relate to, but then exotic can really blow your mind away in a whole other dimension
I agree completely! Variety is a fantastic spice. Make sure to leave your name and email so I can get you entered for the contests!
Stephanie Beck

I like a little variety. Cuz it leaves you wanting more.
And ‘more’ can be a very good thing. Thanks for stopping in, Robin! Make sure you leave your email so you can be entered for the grand prize

We’re not privy to what goes on in someone’s bedroom, so yes I can totally picture the characters doing everyday things
Eva
evitap67(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks for stopping by, Eva. The working of lives behind closed doors can be sooo unexpected. While I’m thrilled to not know what my neighbor is doing, I do like to see the duality of characters.

I love when things are normal. It shows the characters in a “true to life” light. Not to mention…it can work!

Everyday happenings like being in the kitchen or grilling outside makes it seem more normal and more believable. But still fun to read about being in a dungeon or a specialty bar!
books4me67 at ymail dot com
Oh definitely! Putting the characters in that surreal place really amps up the exotic. Thanks for stopping by!
Stephanie Beck
http://www.stephaniebeck.net
I certainly can see them in the kitchen cooking, naked, with just an apron on for the Dom/me. It would be part of their duties as a sub. That would be very sexy
penumbrareads(at)gmail(dot)com
Food fun can certainly be sexy! Thanks for stopping by
Stephanie Beck
http://www.stephaniebeck.net
I really don’t mind if they are doing “normal” things or not, it can all be worked into a story. Actually I like the idea of kitchen type activites that turn naughty.
Opps..sorry…areeths at new dot rr dot com
That’s so true, Anne. If it’s worked in and makes sense, it just gives another glimpse into life. Thanks for stopping by! (I see your email below!)

I agree grilling , normal laity is good but when behind closed doors a true deep love and trust pushing the bonds that are not the norm is Sexy Hot! I love a good read that can excite you sexually!
I’m with you, Marcie! Sexy good fun can lead to a bigger, deeper thing that makes the normal all the more exciting. THanks for stopping by! Make sure to leave your email address so I can get you entered in the contests.

I like them to have that intimacy of doing things other than sex. They are people too, I mean they have to eat lol.

Intimacy can grow in many ways and food is a universal way many people build relationships. Thanks for stoping by!

I like to read both types. I read a paranormal BDSM series and loved it!! Though I can definitely relate more to ones where the H/H are doing everyday real things. I recently read 31 Flavors of Kink by Cari Silverwood and Leia Shaw (which is based on a real woman’s journey into BDSM) and there was this kitchen scene that was so HOT!!!! I loved that book too.
Your story sounds like a wonderful read. Thank you for sharing and for the giveaway!

I really like when the characters have real lives. The people who participate in this lifestyle have jobs, families, they have to cook, clean, etc.
Great post and giveaway!

I like both the fantastical, billionaire Doms who don’t always exist in real life but I also love real life Doms who fart and grill steaks on the weekend and are just regular guys you could meet any day of the week.

Bahahaha, I’m with you but I shall refrain from creating gassy doms! I’ve been told there’s real and then there’s too real
Thanks for stopping!
Stephanie Beck

It’s more realistic for the characters to lead normal lives.
Yep, and sometimes ‘real’ is what you need in stories. Other times, throw ‘real’ out the window and just have fun! Thanks for stopping, Lisa. Make sure you leave your email so I can get you entered in the contest!

I like it all. Depending on my mood. I like a fictional dom, you know that cant possibly be real and i love the down to earth one that could live right next door to you. I love to read it all! Thanks for sharing and for the awesome hop!
