Sugar Mama: Amber Scott (Wednesdays)
Q: When did the writing bug first bite you?
While, I knew even as a kid I wanted to write, I didn’t start writing novels until I had my son and faced the realization of if not now, when?
Q: Friends and family aside, what are the five things you cannot live without?
Coffee!! Chocolate or some other sweet. Laughter, the kind that brings you to tears. A great story. And music. Nothing touches my soul like music.
Q: Every Plot Mama has a Mama ‘handle’? What is the story behind yours?
Sugar is actually my pet name for my husband. But I also have a gigantic sweet tooth. And, one day, I hope I’ll be the breadwinner and be a true sugar mama, a Mercedes 7 Series in the driveway for my honey and all. How cool would it be to go to him, contract or royalty check in hand and…(for more, click here or find her at www.AmberScottBooks.com)
Spinner Mama: Ann Charles (Saturdays, Once a Month)
Q: When did the writing bug first bite you?
Back in the mid-90s. I stumbled about for several years, joining a critique group and RWA, learning craft in between moving across the U.S., getting divorced and remarried, finishing my Bachelor’s degree. Then in 2003, I got serious, “found” my voice, and began learning about the business of writing in addition to honing my craft.
Q: Friends and family aside, what are the five things you cannot live without?
- My brain—I love the way it’s wired and the stories it comes up with to entertain me.
- My writing partners and friends—Without them, I might have given up by now. They make this hard, hard business fun, fun, fun!
- My favorite authors and their books that I love—I learn craft through studying books that I love. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today as an author, nor would I be as entertained and happy.
- Music—Songs inspire and reach into my soul. I often need a song to get me in the mood to fall into my stories when I’m writing.
- Frozen Cokes (slurpees) and sweet-sweet Lattes—Each time I have one, it’s like a party in my mouth. Ha!
Q: Every Plot Mama has a Mama ‘handle’? What is the story behind yours?
I’m Spinner Mama, which references my ability to spin a lot of plates at once, continually. I often refer to myself as a professional plate spinner when other authors ask me how I balance being an author, working a full-time day job, having two young kids and a husband, running a 6-day a week Web site (www.1stturningpoint.com), having multiple critique partners, giving workshops and presentations both online and off, and everything else that comes with building my Ann Charles empire. It’s not easy, but for plate spinning pros like myself and other authors who are pulling off similar schedules, we all learn how to spin each plate just enough to keep everything from crashing down around us…(for more, click here.)
Hot Lava Mama: Deena Remiel (Wednesdays)
Q: When did the writing bug first bite you?
The Poetry Writing Bug bit me when I was in college. But I got bitten real hard two Spring Breaks ago by the Novel Writing Bug. I believe, had I not moved out to Arizona, I would not be the writer I am today.
Q: Friends and family aside, what are the five things you cannot live without?
I CANNOT live without chicken soup, chocolate, music, books, and a nice cabernet.
Q: Every Plot Mama has a Mama ‘handle’? What is the story behind yours?
